Final Fantasy VIII was the first RPG I ever played, and will always hold a special place in my heart. The story, gameplay, and music set a standard I still judge games by today. The music in particular still holds up incredibly well today, with the exception of how synthy it sounds. Look up the Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec live soundtrack and compare it to the standard OST to hear what I mean.
The Stage Is Set is a piece that still pops in my head occasionally, but is unfortunately missing from the Fithos Lusec album. While the Trio Synthonic Orchestra is hardly a live orchestra, I think we did a pretty good job of covering the piece, and helped fix this glaring oversight.

The first of the great adventure games from Lucasarts may not have been its best (or the most musical) but it left its mark nonetheless. Given the extreme lack of music in the game, the opening theme then seemed to carry all that much more weight. Hopefully, we've done it justice as we honor this gaming classic.

In 2003, a luche libre masked man was asked, "Can you draw a dragon?"
The response... In 2003, a luche libre masked man was asked, "Can you draw a dragon?"
The response was so gloriously awesome, that one of the world's greatest metal anthems was immediately created in honor of it. Also, this dragon went on to be a major boss fight featured in Retribution, the (only) game by Adventure Games - now Thunder Monkey Studios. Along with this appearance was an orchestral arrangement of the aforementioned anthem.
The arrangement sucked.

X-Wing - Pilot Proving Grounds
X-Wing is one of the first games I ever played. I made some of my earliest friends...
X-Wing is one of the first games I ever played. I made some of my earliest friends talking about this game. The first real game from parent company Thunder Monkey Studios was going to be a space flight sim that is heavily influenced by this game. When X-Wing was re-released by GOG and a fan project was started that included reorchestrating music from this classic, I jumped at the chance. I'm not sure the current state of that project, but I think I was doing my part well.
This track is from the Pilot Proving Grounds in game. The actual song in game is created from fragments of midi strung together to react to player's actions. I attempted to capture the general flow of segments used in game and turned it into a more traditional piece.

Indiana Jones - Presentation of Atlantis
Behold, a song made out of pure love ... and sheer spite!
I am a huge Indiana Jones... Behold, a song made out of pure love ... and sheer spite!
I am a huge Indiana Jones geek. For as good as the movies are, however, the adventure game Fate of Atlantis is probably the greatest single catalyst for my Indy-mania. Along with good gameplay and a fantastic story, the game also featured a soundtrack by Clint Bajakian, Peter McConnell, and Michael Z. Land that would do John Williams proud.
A group of fans of the game are making a special edition of this game, and it contains a wonderful reorchestration of the music by Rich Douglas. In a jealous huff, I declared to myself that I could to a better job. I don't think I necessarily succeeded, but this is a pretty good attempt.
This piece is played as Sophia gives a presentation about the history of the lost city of Atlantis, first showcasing it's grandeur, and concluding as the city is destroyed by some unknown force.
